Description

Andrew French, the creator of the Castle Forbes Collection has this to say about The Pre Shave...

Oil and water do not mix, which is why we do not make a Pre Shave Oil.  A pre-shave is ideal for those who experience razor burn, have skin imperfections, in growing hairs, a tough growth or just prefer a close and speedy protected shave.  So when our customers asked us to add a pre-shave to our collection we took our time and developed a unique water based, fragrance free product.  We failed to see how coating the skin and bristle with oil, which impedes penetration of water based lather to the bristle could optimize the cut.  The most essential ingredient in a successful Wet Shave is WATER to maximize hydration, to swell and weaken the bristle for the optimum close cut.

The Pre-Shave starts the hydration process, quenching & swelling the bristle prior to shaving, leaving a ‘slip’ which allows the blade to glide over the contours and any imperfections of the skin to allow a close and protective shave.  Our water based formulation does not impede penetration to the bristle of  water based shaving lathers, nor will it leave your basin and your blades claggy or allow any oil residue to be picked up by your shaving brush which could cause reduced penetration of water to the brush hairs.

Not cheap, but the best.
Yes, its pretty pricey. No way around that. But, its also the best pre-shave I've ever used. It goes on smoothly, and smells of herbs. As you rub, you can almost feel your beard swell in anticipation. Its water soluble, so the residue rinses easily and cleanly off of your hands.

Is the performance worth the money? For me, I keep a bottle for weekends. I can't justify using this every day. If cost is a concern, and you don't have a problem beard, I'd probably go with something else. If you don't mind spending the extra money to get the best, or if you have a problem beard, I'd pick this up.
